About this course

Topics related to firearms, self-defense and preparedness. This class will include range time and drills as well as lecture.

What guns and gear do I need? – overview of practical choices (action types, calibers, and other features)

Minimum standards for pistol, rifle and shotgun (drills) – Definition of a basic level of competence with each firearm type. Includes range time developing and verifying participants have those skills.

How to supervise, assist and coach others – Specifically how to handle situations where untrained family/friends that may have their own guns (or want you to provide them) may need or want to be armed during an emergency. You may have to select gear for them (or purchase spare/extra gear to have on hand for them), quickly teach them enough that their gun handling is safe and they are not a danger or a liability in a defensive incident.

How to coordinate untrained/undertrained, armed people – In an emergency, untrained family, friends, neighbors or co-workers may look to you (the trained person) for guidance or direction. This session will discuss fundamentals of team tactics and how to employ them when your partners have no prior training.

Familiarization with manually operated firearms (lever action rifle, pump shotgun, double action revolver). Bring your own, or bring ammo in calibers we will identify in the pre-class email. If your preferred gear is lost or inaccessible you may have to make do with whatever you can find.

Storage and access: how many guns, how much ammo, how and where to store it?

Get Home Bag DrillPaul Martin will lead participants in a scenario involving their get home bag, team tactics, live fire (reactive 3D / steel targets), and medical response.

Video Simulator Scenarios: The team with Immersive Training Solutions will be bringing their video simulator to the A-Zone. Each participant will get the opportunity to run a scenario in the simulator

Prerequisites: Able to safely handle, load, unload, and shoot the firearms brought to class. With both the handgun and long gun, ability to hit a 12″ circular target from a standing, unsupported position at 15 yards (no time limit) is required.
